Historical Russian leather from the S.S. "Metta Catharina"
As one of the only three bespoke shoemakers worldwide, we are supplied with very rare, historical Russian leather from the salvaged " Catharina" by the Duke of Cornwall. The peculiarity of this legendary leather lies in its production. Russian tanners in the region around St. Petersburg made use of a totally individual method of leather production. Usually it took more than two years until the Russian leather, mostly made of reindeer and cow leather was completed. In the 18th century it was coveted in all of Europe, especially in Genoa and Mailand, where it was very popular. All attempts to imitate this special method of tanning have failed until today. Real Russian leather has always remained unique in its quality.
This will certainly not change since nobody in the country of origin itself knows about the original method of production anymore.
